It is hard to believe that so many in our community have so little. Even worse, many of those in need are women and children. At the time Women & Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen (WCFR) was founded, there were many meal programs for men, but few for women and families. Women and children who live in poverty are most vulnerable. Many are living in or trying to escape from domestic violence. Our program is meant to provide nourishment for women and children in a safe environment.
51% of children attending Spokane County Schools applied for the federal free/reduced meal program. That's one in four children who do not have adequate, nutritious food on a regular basis.
As part of the same community that so desperately needs our help, we hope that you consider playing a positive role in the lives of these less fortunate women and children. WCFR provided 66,503 healthy meals last year and is on track to serve 70,000 meals in 2018.
