About Us

Now in our 38th year, Women & Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen is a vital safety net — filling nutritional gaps for women and children in need while fostering dignity and respect, both within our restaurant and throughout our community. WCFR is a two-time AGORA Award winner for nonprofit excellence, providing over one million meals annually.

We serve women, children, seniors, and teens facing nutrition insecurity and poverty rooted in a range of causes — job loss, medical debt, housing instability, and the rising cost of basic necessities. Women in particular continue to face disproportionate barriers to financial stability, making our services as vital today as at any point in our 38-year history.

Beyond our doors, we prepare nutritious meals for organizations across the community, partnering with agencies that provide housing and shelter services, domestic violence assistance, child care and protection, and LGBTQ+ support. These partnerships connect our most vulnerable neighbors with basic needs and healthy food options that improve their quality of life.

Safety, dignity, self-sufficiency, and mutual respect anchor everything we do. We're committed to building a vibrant, resilient community and future. Food insecurity — unreliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food — affects 13% of Spokane County residents, including nearly 1 in 5 children.
